Ford – the Nazi connection

I’ve received some letters that say it isn’t fair that I call Ford a hotbed for Nazism. Well, I certainly can’t say that the present day Ford executives are Nazis or anti-semitic but I can say that Ford built vehicles for the Third Reich for profit and did sue the US government for bombing those factories. I just feel as victimized in that they build vehicles with faults and don’t own up to them, even though there is a potential to cause death or injury. Maybe the CAW and UAW can justify this position but, if they want my support as a taxpayer, they had better support me as a consumer. The former is forced but the latter is voluntary and at least I can take my business elsewhere. Ford was’nt patriotic in the second world war, so why should I “Buy Canadian/American” from Ford now.

For the Nazi link, go to this YouTube video for an entertaining song and video.

GM or Ford – who is the most ethical???

The old bailout scenario is becoming old news but, it is interesting that one of the companies asking for this bailout is at least trying to look after their customers, unlike Ford.  GM announced awhile ago that they are recalling approximately 1.5 million vehicles due to the potential for them to leak oil and cause an engine fire.  Some of the vehicles aren’t even in production now!!!!!.  And, we’re talking POTENTIAL HERE!!!!!!   Ethics.  Now, Ford kept on selling F150s with leaky front windows and didn’t even warn the consumer that their electronics were frying due to this leak.  Yes, they would repair the damaged parts at the consumer’s cost but, they didn’t always tell why the part was damaged.  No one was sent a letter telling them to look out for certain issues that would warn them that there was a potential for damage.  No, Ford hid the problem, made their profits and are now moving on.

GM, at least you’ve got the balls to stand behind your product, even when your having financial problems.  Having experienced this, I now understand the historical viewpoint of Ford – old Henry Ford’s picture up on Hitler’s wall and slave labour to build for the Third Reich… And, suing the US government for bombing the Ford/Nazi vehicle plants!!!… (note: yes, GM sued as well but at least they back the consumer) Yes, this sort of explains why Ford doesn’t care enough about the consumer and the F150 problems.  But then, Ford is a patriotic company – yeah right…… They hide problems from the consumer and god only knows what else they are hiding - especially from the government – ergo the lack of asking for bailout – too many questions and control.

Freedom of the Press – real or not?????

I read an article in the Saturday Toronto Star (IN 6 April 18th, 2009).  Titled, “Stories that make a difference“, it was a nicely written piece by the Toronto Star Public Editor, Kathy English that explained how the Star utilized investigative reporters and was one of the few newspapers to have the luxury of such services.  I tried to submit the following as a comment but, as you can see, it was too long.  I did submit it to the Public Editor though via email.  If you visit the comment section for the article, you will see that I am not alone in my thoughts.

We all know there are Republican/Democrat/Conservative/Liberal biased newspapers run by those in power that want their viewpoint brought forward.  The opinion pages are just that, OPINION PAGES.  Hopefully though, the integrity of the journalistic occupation is upheld though in the NEWS sections of the paper.  Just the facts ma”am is what we want.  Unbiased reporting of the facts that let us make our own conclusion.  If we want help, we visit the opinion page and get the biased look at the news.

But, when a newspaper says it does investigative reporting to right wrongs and when given evidence of such wrongdoing and it does nothing, well, it loses its credibility.  Freedom of the press, methinks, is bought and paid for by the advertisers and power structure of the country it is published.  In some 3rd world countries, the dictator dictates the news.  Here, an advertiser just calls the publisher and gets what they want.  Has anyone read about the Ford leaky window problem in the mainstream (Ford advertising) press or just in local forums and this blog? But then again, you don’t see Ford ads on this blog.  :-)

Dear Ms. English

I originally wasn’t going to comment on your piece dated April 18th (IN 6 “Stories that make a difference”) but, the more I thought about it, the more I felt that the whole story wasn’t being told.  No, it was a good article and made a few good points but, it may have “talked the talk” but we are talking about a paper that no longer “walks the walk”.

You mention that the Star is “clearly in a minority of Canadian newspapers in its current commitment to investigative journalism”.    You further state that “investigative reporting as integral to its mission of serving the public trust and championing social justice issues”.  Well, we have seen your paper publically display the income of a few police officers who are working hard and, you recently hounded a police senior officer to his house even in order to further expose his “internal” charges.  I am sure the public at large out there are really concerned on how this will affect their own lives.

But, when you are given solid information that Ford has built F150 trucks with internal manufacturing faults and does not even tell the consumer, you ignore something that not only affects a lot of people but, puts their lives at risk.  Ford was even selling these vehicles knowing they had these faults and didn’t warn the consumer to look out for certain signs.  No, they just let the consumer pay for the repairs.  I guess you consider that good corporate citizenship.

And, Mattamy Homes?  Here we have an award winning builder pleading guilty to an environmental crime and it doesn’t appear in your paper nor the other issues in Kanataand Bracebridge, which are covered by much smaller news agencies.

What is common between these two?  They are major advertisers in your paper.

Your editor Kevin Donovan is quoted as saying: “”We do these stories to make a difference.  We investigate allegations of wrongdoing and when those allegations are borne out we tell stories that, we hope, make decision-makers take notice. If we are lucky, we bring injustices to light and right wrongs.”  Only those injustices that perk the interest of your reporters and don’t offend your main advertisers it seems is what you write about.  Let’s face it, money talks and so do advertisers.  So, please don’t talk about righting wrongs when you are selective on whom you take on -   non-advertisers and I guess those who can’t defend themselves publically.  Thank god for Blogs.  At least we have an opportunity to bring the truth out into the open.  And you wonder why there is declining readership?  It is called credibility and the Star’s biases are one reason you’re losing readership.

Ford going bankrupt????

I read the following on MSN money:

“Ford Motor
Ford Motor (F, news, msgs) emerged as the healthiest U.S. automaker last year when it made clear that it didn’t need a government bailout. But being the healthiest in the intensive-care unit doesn’t mean that survival will come without some bitter medicine.

Some investors fear bankruptcy could be that medicine. Ford posted a $14.6 billion loss in 2008. That was the company’s worst performance in its history, adjusting for inflation.

And that likely will keep the company from making a further dent in its $15.9 billion debt. Although the company has shown some progress in restructuring its debt — shaving off $9.9 billion in April to get below $16 billion — it still has a lot of work to do before assuaging bankruptcy concerns.

I guess that explains a lot about why they refuse to do anything about the F150 trucks that are frying their electronics, blowing spark plugs and, having water come in the rear window due to poor manufacturing.  They aren’t asking for government money to help out in this recession but, they’re not helping out the consumer by fixing the trucks they are selling with built in problems.

Myself, I prefer the Toyota survival strategy:  Pay the president a reasonable salary ($1 mill compared to $34 mill) and if the vehicle isn’t built properly, they fix the problem without shafting the customer.  Ford’s strategy might result in more parts being sold to fix the problems but it will reduce customer loyalty.  Money talks and Ford only grabs.

Maybe they should offer the UAW/CAW a better deal.  Have them make fewer mistakes that cost the consumer money and maybe we’ll let them keep their gold plated pensions.

Ford even screws the Police

I just thought you’d like to know that even the Police are screwed by Ford. It is no wonder that we can’t get any kind of satisfaction from Ford when the Police themselves are forced to retro-fit their cop-killing Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. For more on this go to my blog June 24th for links.

The attached ad here is in a police advertising publication and it speaks for itself. Ford built the Crown Vic and knows it has killed police officers due to it exploding upon rear end contact with another vehicle. But no, they don’t do the fix and they leave it up to the taxpayer to foot the bill so that our Police can be properly protected.  They may not be asking for the Obama/Harper bailout but why should they.  The taxpayer is paying to keep them afloat by having to do all their own repairs.  So much for ethics but then we’re talking Ford.  You know, the company whose founder was up on Hitler’s wall (see March 7) and was a role model for Hitler.  With that kind of resume, I’d think twice about buying a Ford, especially since they asked the US Government to pay for the German factories that were bombed for making vehicles for the Nazis.  Great patriotic company – yeah right.

Does your Ford Blow Up????
